Olympia Miniatures (previously called Engmarkshus studfarm) is situated in beautiful surroundings just outside Jelling, in Jutland Denmark. We breed mainly miniature horses, but there are other races at the farm, for example Danish warmbloods, Welsh and different crosses of ponies. We also have a dog called Diesel, a lovely cross between labrador and rottweiler.
It all started with a Danish
Warmblooded gelding at a riding school. We bought a property called Engmarkshus
in 1995 and of course my horse should come home. We bought a friend for
him, a mare that we covered. There was just this one problem, - when I
took the gelding to a ridingcompetition, the mare was very insecure, she
did not like to be left alone in the stable. So - we had to buy a friend
for her too! We bought a little ponymare that we covered too. Spring came
and the mares each got a lovely colt, and our interest in breeding
was born.
Someone told me about the
miniaturehorses, very small horses with the grace and beauty of the
arabian horse or a noble ridinghorse. They didn't need a lot of space,
and they were beautiful !
THE FUTURE It was my dream to breed
a little horse, no more than 34 inches, with the grace, the beauty and
the type of the Arabian horse, that led me to use the Welsh-pony to improve
the miniaturehorse, it had been done years ago in the USA, and the american
miniaturehorses are incredibly beautiful.
The future will show if
my dream can come true.
